The House Science Committee on Thursday holds a hearing to probe what went wrong thirteen years ago when a federal report whitewashed the health threats to Marines and their families from contaminated water at the Camp Lejeune, N.C., base.

EPA has reissued the operating permit for the world's largest sewage treatment plant -- Blue Plains, which handles sewage from most of the DC metro area. A study involving hundreds of families in Maine is finding high levels of arsenic in drinking water. The highest risk is for those drinking from private wills, which are not subject to regulation. In Maine, 56 percent of residents live in homes with private wells.
