In 750 words, describe how you or someone in your community is making meaningful strides to lessen modern Western society's impact on the environment. The contest is open to students between the ages of 17 and 24 (as of January 1, 2013) who are currently enrolled in a college or other institute of higher education. Entry deadline: Nov 27, 2013.

Presented for best print, broadcast and online media coverage of the UN, its agencies and field operations, the Awards are open to all journalists, anywhere in the world, for the best book, story, radio or TV program or series. The prizes amount to over $60,000. Deadline is Sep 30, 2024.

The Award is given by the New York Public Library to the author(s) of outstanding, full-length books resulting from print, broadcast, or electronic journalism that impacts public consciousness and policy around an important current issue. Winner receives a $15,000 prize. Nomination deadline is Sep 1, 2024.

 The American Association for the Advancement of Science awards recognize outstanding reporting for a general audience and honor individuals for their coverage of the sciences, engineering and mathematics. This annual competition, presented by Young Reporters for the Environment, recognizes inspired stories, photos and videos about local environmental issues from 11-18 year olds. Win great prizes for your school. Deadline: Apr 12, 2024.

Journalists working for U.S., Canadian or Mexican newspapers, magazine, broadcast organizations (including cable) or online sites accessible to the general public are eligible to apply, as are freelancers. $5,000 prize. Deadline is Mar 15, 2018.

This American Meteorological Society Award recognizes outstanding science reporting and writing about scientific discoveries, principles, advances, and impacts in all media outlets including radio, television, newspaper, magazine, and online. Apply by May 1st.

The biennial Wildscreen Festival in the UK, Oct 14-18, 2024, is a celebration of wildlife filmmaking and photography. The Panda Awards celebrate the craft of wildlife filmmaking and photography and honor the very best that the industry is producing. Deadlines: regular – Apr 12; late – May 10.

The Asian American Journalists Association is accepting nominations for the 2024 Journalism Excellence Awards until Jan 22.  Established in 1987, the awards recognize and encourage excellence among journalists and outstanding coverage of Asian American and Pacific Islander issues.

FIJ awards grants up to $10,000 for stories that break new ground and expose wrongdoing in the public and private sectors. Next deadline is Jan 27, 2025. Plus, seed grants (Jan 31), expedited grants for urgent stories, follow-up grants for timely stories after initial investigations and emergency grants for stories on threats to democracy in the U.S (rolling).
