The Knight Foundation has launched a three-year, $2 million initiative to help underserved news organizations access more sustainable publishing solutions. In its first year, the program offers a one-time subsidy grant of $20,000 to 25 publishers that can be applied to the adoption or management of a Content Management System (CMS) of their choice. The Solutions Journalism Network offers travel grants of up to $750 to journalists and news organizations based in the Mountain West (Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico) to report on solutions outside their own community. Next deadline: Jan 31, 2020.

ProPublica's Local Reporting Network pays the salary and a stipend for benefits for reporters at news organizations across the country so they can spend a year working on an accountability journalism project of importance to their communities. Next deadline, for five open spots: Jul 22, 2024.

This global competition awards cash prizes to outstanding professional journalists who change the world for the better with their groundbreaking stories. This American Chemical Society award is given for outstanding reporting which increases the public's knowledge and understanding of chemistry, chemical engineering and related fields. Winner receives $5,000 and up to $2,500 for travel expenses to the meeting at which the award will be presented. Deadline: Nov 1 annually.

The Center for Health Journalism at the USC Annenberg School of Journalism is offering Impact Fund grants of $2,000-$10,000 for groundbreaking reporting on the health of underserved communities in California, including an exploration of environmental conditions where people live and work. Deadline: Sep 20, 2019.

This annual fund is offering two $5,000 grants in 2019 — one each for a humanitarian and an environmental photography project. Open to professional or emerging photographers from any country, worldwide. Apply by July 31.

OneClass, an education technology company in Toronto, Ontario, is giving away scholarships ranging from US$450 - $2000 to students enrolled or accepted for enrollment full-time in the 2019/2020 academic year at an accredited US, Canadian or Australian post-secondary institution.
