The Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) annually offers awards honoring significant contributions to journalism and provides fellowship opportunities for journalists.

2024 Awards and Fellowships:
*NEW* CJF-Narcity News Creator Fellowships
This six-week fellowship is designed to provide aspiring news creators with comprehensive training and mentorship from Narcity Media’s editors and journalists, focusing on the creation of engaging local news videos for publication on the creator’s social channels as well as Narcity’s. Supported by YouTube Canada and the Google News Initiative, the CJF-Narcity News Creator Fellowship is dedicated to nurturing the growth of emerging video storytelling talent. Fellows will also receive valuable training on compelling video content creation from YouTube Canada’s news team.
CJF Award for Climate Solutions Reporting
This award, which carries a $10,000 cash prize, recognizes excellence in reporting on what is being done in Canada and beyond to address the impact and threat of climate change – the policies, practices and people that could potentially be part of the solution to this global crisis. CJF Black Journalism Fellowships Program
This program was launched to amplify Black voices, improve coverage of Black issues in the news and cultivate future Black media leaders, with CBC/Radio-Canada and CTV News as its first partners. The fellowships will provide a unique opportunity for an early-career Black journalist to be hosted for six months at a CBC/Radio-Canada (English or French), The Globe and Mail or CTV News newsroom, across the country, or at the Investigative Journalism Bureau at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. CJF Jackman Award for Excellence in Journalism
This award honours an organization that embodies exemplary journalism with a resulting impact on the community it serves, in both small media and large media categories.
Lifetime Achievement Award
This award recognizes a substantial contribution by a Canadian journalist to the profession.
The CJF-Edward Burtynsky Award for Climate Photojournalism
This $5,000 award celebrating provocative, impactful and inspirational climate photography from around the world recognizes a photojournalist whose work furthers people’s understanding of the causes and effects of the climate crisis. Thanks to the generous support of Marci McDonald and Clair Balfour and Lisa Balfour Bowen, as well as Sony, for funding this award.
CJF-CBC Indigenous Journalism Fellowships
These fellowships offer three early-career Indigenous journalists the chance to explore issues of interest. The fellows are hosted for one month by CBC News at its Indigenous Unit in Winnipeg. Thanks to the generous support of new sponsor Sobeys Inc.
The Landsberg Award
Named after Michele Landsberg — award-winning journalist, author, social activist and feminist--this award celebrates a journalist who is raising awareness about women’s equality issues in Canada and aims to inspire an increase in the media coverage and voice of women in Canada. The recipient receives a $5,000 prize. This award is presented in association with the Canadian Women's Foundation.
Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award
This award offers a six-week paid internship at The Canadian Press head office in Toronto to a photojournalist in the early stages of his or her career. The annual internship is designed to give a photographer trying to break into the business a chance to perform on the national stage. This award is sponsored by Sony.
The CJF Bursary for BIPOC Student Journalists
This bursary is open to a BIPOC student in their final year of a Canadian undergraduate journalism program and is designed to support students who have demonstrated a commitment to high journalistic standards. This $5,000 award is sponsored by MediaProfile.
