"Shortly after Democrats regained their majority in 2006, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi created a special committee to address global warming. Now, one of her Republican successor’s first orders of business will be disbanding it.
A spokesman for House Republican Leader John Boehner, the speaker-designate, said the decision was driven by a desire to cut costs.
Politics also played its part; few Republicans supported the idea of creating a special task force to tackle an issue of which many GOP lawmakers are skeptical."
