"EPA Works To Clear Contaminated Soil From Wayland Site"

"WAYLAND, Mich.  -- The Environmental Protection Agency is working to clear contaminated soils from a former recycling business site in Wayland.

At the request of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, the EPA started work this week to remove an estimated 8,000 cubic yards of contaminated soils from the former Wayland Recycling Inc. site at 763 Elm St.

EPA officials believe the contamination took place several years ago, possibly even prior to the Wayland Recycling business. Preliminary findings show soils are heavily contaminated with hazardous substances including lead, arsenic and PCBs."
