"The Chesapeake Bay Foundation and its partners want to add 10 billion oysters to the bay and its tributaries in Virginia and Maryland over the next seven years.
The program, announced Monday, likely will be an increase over the number of oysters added during the past seven years, Bay Foundation officials said, though they haven’t yet tallied an estimate of how many were put in over the most recent period.
More important, foundation officials said, is the partnership of more than 20 businesses, nonprofit groups and educational institutions joining in the new effort. It’s the largest such coalition in the decadeslong oyster recovery program."
