"Amid Legionnaires’ Fears, City Proposes New Cooling Tower Rules"

"The outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in the South Bronx is the largest in New York City history, officials said Tuesday, as they announced new measures to fight a disease that had claimed the lives of seven people and sickened more than 80 others.

City health officials said the outbreak, which began in July, was being spread by mist emitted from cooling towers that sit atop some buildings across the city.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday he would introduce legislation along with the City Council this week requiring the owners of buildings with the towers to register them and regularly inspect them or face penalties."
