Virtual Event: How Journalists Can Report on Toxic Hot Spots
Join ProPublica reporters for an in-depth tutorial on how to investigate toxic air pollution in your neighborhood by using ProPublica’s first-of-its-kind air toxics map and data.
When: Mon, Nov 22, 2021, 3:00-4:00 p.m. ET
Earlier this month, ProPublica published a groundbreaking map that showed the spread of cancer-causing air pollution from industrial facilities into nearby neighborhoods. Now, ProPublica and SEJ would like to empower journalists across the country to use this new tool to illuminate the risks their communities face and to hold government and industrial facilities accountable for pollution problems. (To learn more about the data, be sure to check out ProPublica's reporting recipe and methodology.)
In this hour-long webinar, ProPublica reporters will demonstrate how journalists can use the map to uncover air pollution problems, decipher what the data means and tell these stories locally. If you would like the region you report on to be considered as an area covered in ProPublica’s map demo, please include that geographic information with your registration.
The second half of the event will be devoted to answering your questions. To submit a question, include it with your registration or send it to events@propublica.org.
This event is co-sponsored by SEJ.
