DEADLINE: O'Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism
Backed by the resources of Marquette University and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, O'Brien Fellows spend nine months researching, reporting and writing the stories they care most deeply about — stories with the potential to change policies and improve lives. The fully funded O'Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism allows newsroom professionals to do the best work of their careers on issues of vital importance while they also mentor the next generation of journalists.
The fellowship takes place on the campus of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, home to the Journalism and Media Studies department of the Diederich College of Communication. Fellows work from private offices inside the O’Brien newsroom in historic Johnston Hall.
Fellows travel domestically or overseas for their reporting. Fellows receive $75,000 for salary and access funds for travel, research and housing. Each works with a team of Marquette journalism students on their project.
After the fellowship, O’Brien sends a university-funded summer intern to each fellow’s news organization.
Deadline: Jan. 19, 2025
